How Abiy Ahmed is accelerating the decline of the western world.

In 2019, Abiy Ahmed received the Nobel Peace Prize for a “peace agreement” with Eritrea's Government. A nation that Ethiopia has been at odds with since the border war of 1991. According to the Nobel Prize Website “Abiy Ahmed Ali took up the post of Prime Minister of Ethiopia in April 2018. The country was ravaged by a protracted conflict with its neighbour, Eritrea, over a disputed border area. An international arbitration commission ruled in favour of Eritrea in 2002, but the Ethiopian government refused to accept the ruling. After 16 years of “no war, no peace” between the two countries, Abiy Ahmed broke the deadlock and accepted the decision. In September 2018, he and Eritrean President Isaias Afwerki signed a historic peace agreement.”

However this could not be anything further from the truth. As this was not so much a peace agreement but a war pact against the Tigrayan Peoples Liberation Front who were deemed and touted and propagandized as the “ruling” party of the Ethiopian Peoples Revolutionary Democratic Front. However the EPRDF was made up of a coalition of parties from every regional state in Ethiopia and was founded to ensure that each region's autonomy was respected in the centre. The current “prime minister” Abiy Ahmed rose to power on the narrative that the Oromo peoples were historically marginalized in Ethiopian politics since its founding 130 years ago; however this can not be further from the truth as Ethiopia even in its empirical era had plenty ruling elite from the Oromo people group. Most notably Menelik the second who is hailed as Ethiopia's “savior” as he was the King during the battle for Adwa against what political scientists would term Italy's “Fascist” administration right after Yohannes IV died on the battlefield in Western Tigray fighting against Sudan's British backed Mahadist administation. Eritrea's Government at the time saw this as an opportunity to gain revenge over the border war that occurred in 1991 and ended in 2002 in its favor. However the Eritrean government did not take in account that the T.P.L.F.'s existence and rule in the Tigray region guarantees Eritrean Sovereignty as Abiy Ahmed's long term ambition is to gain control over the ports of Eritrea so that he can raise a Naval Force with the assistance of the French Government. https://www.reuters.com/article/world/ethiopia-france-sign-military-navy-deal-turn-new-page-in-ties-idUSKBN1QT2VZ/

This has led to a complex web of geopolitical ties between the west and Ethiopia as the E.P.R.D.F. was walking a tight rope between the west and the east as they constructed the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam. With China having played a huge part in the dam’s construction. Using the Dam as a rallying point for ordinary citizens of the country who had long standing grievances with the T.P.L.F. as they bought the narrative that scapegoated the T.P.L.F. and in extension the Tigrayan people which it represented in the centre; Abiy Ahmed backed by Turkey, China, United Arab Emirates and Iran (https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2021/11/25/uae-air-bridge-provides-military-support-to-ethiopia-govt, https://www.nytimes.com/2021/12/20/world/africa/drones-ethiopia-war-turkey-emirates.html?eafs_enabled=false, https://www.theguardian.com/world/2021/nov/04/ethiopia-turkey-pact-fuels-speculation-about-drone-use-in-tigray-war, https://www.oryxspioenkop.com/2021/09/made-in-china-ethiopias-fleet-of.html, https://www.aljazeera.com/features/2021/12/10/how-armed-drones-may-have-helped-turn-tide-in-ethiopia-conflict, https://www.bellingcat.com/news/2021/08/17/is-ethiopia-flying-iranian-made-armed-drones/)

As well as Israel's Mossad having made an agreement with Ethiopian intelligence agencies(https://borkena.com/mossad-strengthening-cooperation-with-ethiopias-niss/, https://www.madamasr.com/en/2026/10/01/feature/politics/how-a-war-in-tigray-could-set-off-a-more-complex-fight/ )  as it is in the T.P.L.F. 's founding manifesto section C of the foreign policy section stating that they support palestinians liberation. (https://www.marxists.org/history/erol/ethiopia/tigray-program.pdf) Egypt also played a key role in the conflict as one of the niles sources is located in Ethiopia and it had fears that the Dam would restrict water flows to its state being a nation that is literally on the edge of the Sahara Desert.

All in All; the T.P.L.F is seen by these big powers as an obstacle as it stands for the self determination of not only itself as polity, the people it represents but also for the other nations and nationalities which exist in the borders of what has been a failed state on the path to bullionization like Yugoslavia.

The whole reason T.P.L.F even exists is because Tigrayans rebelled against the Haile Selassie administration citing “no taxation with out representation”

Why does this matter to western nations? Although T.P.L.F. has its roots in what is termed “leftist” politics; they as a party and E.P.R.D.F. had much more in common with Western ideas of Liberty than the current prosperity party government. As the only way the current government solves the issues that exist within the country is through War. Whereas during the EPRDFS administration Ethiopia's nations and nationalities enjoyed unprecedented levels of economic growth and development. At the cost of Tigrays people as most of that economic development occurred in the centre and the south due to the Oromo peoples complaints of being historically marginalised in Ethiopian polity.
